The Polish Legions during the First World War

Throughout the year we will be commemorating the most important events in the history of the Polish Legions, which led to Poland gaining independence after 123 years of occupation.

We begin our commemoration on the 3rd of August, the day of the commencement of activities by the First Cadre Company.

3. VIII. 1914 Krakow, Oleandry
Józef Piłsudski makes a speech to the newly created First Cadre Division which was formed by unification of the Riflemen's Association and the Polish Rifle Squads; "from now on there will be no riflemen or groups, all of you here are Polish soldiers [...] soldiers! You have the honour of being the first to cross the borders of polish territories annexed by Russia."
3/4 VIII. 1914.
The first organised military division of Polish soldiers leaves Krakow under the command of Władysław Belina-Prażmowski. His goal is to understand the conditions in the Russian occupied territory, to start skirmishes and prepare the people for a revolt against Russia.
6. VIII. 1914
The soldiers of the First Cadre Division, under the command of Tadeusz Kasprzycki, cross the Austro-Russian boarder at Michałowice.
7. VIII. 1914
The soldiers of the First Cadre Division liberate Miechow on their way to Kielce.
